
Frost Summer Experience

Jazz Vocal Intensive
July 14-18, 2025
This unique week-long intensive is designed for vocalists interested in gaining experience in solo singing through jazz and latin music. All vocalists will also gain experience working with other vocal musicians in jazz vocall ensembles. In addition to developing your vocal artistry in daily performance opportunities, you will improve your musical understanding and exposure in courses taught by Frost Jazz Vocal Performance program director, Dr. Kate Reid and other faculty of the Frost Studio Music and Jazz department. Daily classes include music theory, jazz improvisation, music business and entrepreneurship. Workshops in audition and college prep are also available during the week and the week will culminate with a final concert. Come to Frost this summer and make music with us!







Meet the Program Director

Kate Reid
Kate Reid is Director of the Jazz Vocal Performance program and Associate Professor of jazz voice in the Studio Music and Jazz department at the FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC at the University of Miami. Apart from overseeing all aspects of the Jazz Vocal Performance program, Professor Reid directs two of the FROST’s three jazz vocal ensembles -- FROST Extensions and FROST Jazz Vocal I. Dr. Reid coordinates the Jazz Vocal Performance Program and she maintains a full studio of undergraduate and graduate jazz vocal students. In addition to her teaches duties at Frost, Dr. Reid is in demand as a guest artist, conductor, clinician and adjudicator at all-state jazz and choral festivals through the United States and Canada.
While living in California Dr. Reid appeared regularly with her own quartet at jazz venues throughout the Los Angeles area. She has worked with many great jazz musicians in southern California, including guitarists Ron Eschete, Larry Koonse and Bruce Forman, and drummers Roy McCurdy and Jamey Tate. Dr. Reid’s CD, The Love I’m In (2012), features tenor saxophonist Ernie Watts and pianist Otmaro Ruiz. Like her album Sentimental Mood (2008), The Love I’m In features tunes from the Great American songbook and it received extensive airplay on jazz radio stations throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and South Africa. In addition, Dr. Reid has performed with many renowned artists, including John Clayton, Robin Eubanks, Jon Hendricks, Grady Tate, Mercer Ellington, Don Shelton, Mark Murphy, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Liza Minelli, Mark Murphy, Rosemary Clooney, Dianne Schurr and Dr. Billy Taylor.
Dr. Reid’s multifaceted career also includes work as a studio and session singer in Los Angeles. Her film credits include Planes, Star Trek Into Darkness, Oz-The Great and Powerful, Epic and Men In Black III, featuring the music of composers Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, John Powell and Joel McNeely. She has lent her voice to several network television series, to commercial spots and to recordings by such artists as MUSE, X Japan and Josh Groban.
Students must be in grades 9-12
Please submit two video or audio examples of you singing 2 songs of any contrasting styles with either piano, irealpro or backing track accompaniment. Image orientation should be in landscape.
On your video, please tell us any instruments you play, if any, and which ensembles, if any, you sing and perform with in school.

2025 Program Tuition: $1,250
Tuition Includes: Program Instruction and performance, daily lunch, and program shirt. Program tuition does not include: on campus housing and commuter parking.
Note: Camp tuition does not include the Acceptd Application fee of $50.00.
On campus summer housing will be available for non-local program participants.
Housing Check in day: Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.
Housing Check out day: Saturday, July 19, 2025 before 12:00pm.Cost for Program Housing: $950.00
Housing cost includes: Double Room occupancy for 13 nights, dorm linen package (bed sheet, comforter, pillow, bath towel, and washcloth), all daily meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) in our dorm dining hall.
